WARNING ! !
The first tests tend to be very difficult simply because you are not too sure what I'll ask or how hard the questions will be. The topic was covered rather quickly since this is a concept you should have learned in grade 7.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO !
MEMORIZE THE RULES FOR SIGNED NUMBERS.
ADDITION If the signs are the SAME, just ADD the numbers and keep that sign for your answer. If the signs are DIFFERENT, you subtract the numbers and take the sign of the greater number.
SUBTRACTION With subtraction, ALWAYS change minus to plus AND change the sign of the next number-then use the addition rule.
MULTIPLICATION & DIVISION Multiply or divide as usual, then look at the signs of the numbers. If the numbers have the same signs, then the answer is always POSITIVE. If the signs are different, then the answer is always NEGATIVE. |
